State of the Arts Symposium 2020

The event will take place in Paris on February 6th and 7th 2020.

This symposium is co-organized by la Gaîté Lyrique and the University of the Arts, ZHdK, Zurich.

“It is about overcoming the economist”

At the 2019 International Conference on “The Future Relevance of the Creative Economies: Familiar and New Narratives,” there was unanimous agreement that while the significance of the cultural and creative industries, and their funding eligibility, are beyond question, they cannot be measured exclusively based on economic principles. Discussing the case of Barcelona, Francesca Bria’s lively lecture illustrated that although the difference between creative professionals, business and public administration and their logics may prove to be an obstacle, this can be overcome.

International Research Symposium 2019

Set up as a collaboration between Kompetenzzentrum Kultur- und Kreativwirtschaft des Bundes (Germany) and the CreativeEconomies research venture of ZHdK, the research symposium will discuss narratives for value creation in the Creative Ecomonies. The event will take place in Berlin on October 30th 2019.

Hong Kong Panel 2019

Taking place on the 25th and 26th of March, the international workshop «Mapping Creativity» will explore narrative strategies for the advancement of the creative ecologies in Hong Kong and at a global scale. The event is acknowledged as an associated partner programme of Art Basel Hong Kong 2019.

Lake Constance Region’s Creative Economy

Available now! The report includes a wealth of analyses, facts, portraits, figures, comparisons and mappings, through which it draws a multi-faceted picture of this multi-sector complex in the border region of Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Liechtenstein. The regional significance of the creative economies in the Lake Constance region is thus demonstrated for the first time and placed in its European context.

This research was made possible by the International University of the Lake Constance (IBH), which funded the project and resulted from a close cooperation between Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK), the CreativeEconomies research venture as well as HTWG Konstanz – University of Applied Siences. The Statistical Office Canton of Zurich contributed to the project as a field partner.

International Conference on Creative Impact 2018

Set up as a collaboration between Kompetenzzentrum Kultur- und Kreativwirtschaft des Bundes (Germany) and the CreativeEconomies Research Venture of ZHdK, the Conference will discuss creative impact as a matrix between innovation and creativity.

The conference will take place in Berlin, October 30th.

Creative Economy Report 2018

Which strategies do artists and designers pursue in search of a “positive economy”? How do they interlink contents and contexts in different entrepreneurial settings? What characterises the creative economies in Switzerland? How are the country’s creative industry submarkets developing? This report explores the dynamics of Switzerland’s creative economies. Based on analyses, facts and figures, portraits and mappings, it presents a multi-faceted picture of this industry complex beyond buzzwords like “business” and “creativity.” It thus contributes to understanding new emerging business models.

Creative Economy Report 2016

“Von der Kreativwirtschaft zu den Creative Economies – Kreativ­wirtschaftsbericht Schweiz 2016”: This report provides new approaches to the Creative Economy in Switzerland along defined submarkets of the Creative Industries. Furthermore it focuses on national and global key issues such as value creation, modes of cooperation, processes of creation, practices and processes of the involved actors.

The report is currently available in German. Parts of the report are also available in English.
